RFID tags are a types of scanning system that uses smart
barcodes in order to recognise items. Radio Frequency
Identification, RFID tags utilise radio frequency technology. These
radio waves pass on data from the tag to a reader, which then
transfer the information to an RFID computer program. RFID tags are
frequently used for commodities, they can also be used to track
vehicles, pets, and even patients with Alzheimer’s disease, to know
the Race Timings, Tracing of Assets, etc. An RFID tag can also be
labelled as an RFID chip.
To be more specific, An RFID tag in its most simple form, is
comprised of two parts – an antenna for transmitting and receiving
signals, and an RFID chip (something like an integrated circuit,
IC) which stores the tag’s ID and other information. RFID tags are
connected to items in order to track them using an RFID reader and
antenna.
there is such wide variation of RFID applications, there are also a
wide variety of RFID tags and ways to classify them. A common way
to split tags into types is inlays & hard tags.
Inlays are low-priced, typically varying between
$0.09 - $1.75 depending on the features on the
tags. Hard tags are generally more durable and
weather resistant and expensive than inlays, the price varies
between $1.00 - $20.00.
Tag pricing depends on the type of tag and the amount that are
being ordered. As explained above, inlays typically vary between
$0.09 - $1.75 and hard tags can vary between
$1.00 - $20.00. The higher the level of
modification or the more specialized the tag, the more expensive it
will be in comparison to typical off-the-shelf tags.
Some estimates are below
(the price is based on volume, memory, the packing of the tag
itself, and whether the tag is active, passive or many other
variables.
96-bit passive tags (chip and antenna mounted on a substrate) can
cost between 0.091 USD and 0.17 USD per unit. If
the tag is also embedded in a thermal transfer label where you can
print a barcode, the price goes up to about 0.23 USD.
The most representative active tags are around
33.98 USD per unit. if you have the budget and the
need, you can always opt for active tags that can cost more
than 113.27 USD per unit, these usually come with a
special protective case, extra long battery life or sensors.)
A few other factors that affect the cost of RFID tags the types of RFID tags
a few types of RFID tags are
Form Factor – Inlay, Label, Card, Badge, Hard Tags etc
Frequency Type– LF, NFC, HF, UHF Passive (902 – 928 MHz, 865 – 868 MHz), BAP, Active etc
Environmental Factors– Water resistant, Rugged, Temperature resistant, Chemical resistant etc
Customizable– Shape, Size, Text, Encoding etc
Specific Features/Applications– Laundry Tags, Sensor Tags, Embeddable Tags, Autoclavable Tags, Vehicle Tags, High Memory Tags etc
Specific Surface Materials– Metal mount tags, Glass mount tags, Tags for Liquid-filled items etc
finally a few queries that should be considered while selecting RFID tags (that may impact the current cost) are
What type of surface will you be tagging? On metal, plastic,
wood, etc.?
What read range do you want?
Size limitations ?
Any excessive environmental conditions to consider? Excessive heat,
cold, moisture, impact, etc.?
hope this clarrifies. an upvote / thumbs up is highly recommended as this will boost my morale to answer more in the future. help much appreciated
