Biopsychosocial model explains depression on the basis of biological ,psycholoical,and sociological reasons. The explanations are as following:

  • Biological explanation: Depression in some people may be due to their genetic predisposition, the genetic trait that they inherit may have genes of depression.The genetic factors as the way the neurotransmitter, serotonin is balanced in the brain has to do a lot with depression.Many studies shows that imbalance in the level of serotonin is associated with depression.
  • Psychological explanation: The the psychological factors as trauma ,prolonged stress event ,childhood abuse, strain in family relationship,etc plays an important role in depression
  • Social explanation: The causes of depression may be the social factors as poverty ,violence, unemployment, low income, family atmosphere,loss of a dear one etc.

Treatment for depression

  • Taking medication for increasing the level of serotonin.
  • Regular exercise to keep oneself healthy and healthy eating habit so that level of serotonin is maintained in the body.
  • Seeking cognitive behavioral therapy for depression
  • Providing social support for the conditions of the individual suffering from depression.
