14. Henry is a 20 year old college student who has just been in a car accident where he suffered multiple injuries. He was transported by ambulance to the emergency room and upon examination, it is apparent he has retrograde amnesia. When he is asked about events that
occurred just before the accident, he cannot recall those memories.
What type of memories were affected by the accident?
15. Fast forward several years later. Henry is 77 and recalls how wonderful his life has been. He fully recovered from that car accident in college. He and his wife of 45 years have just retired to Boca Raton. They are out at a restaurant and his wife is talking to him but he has trouble
hearing her.
How do you explain what is happening to Henry?
retrograde amnesia is a loss of memmory access to the events that occured or information that was learned in the past. it is caused by brain injury or diseases.
here the person is unable to recall the events that occured just prior to the accident, which indicates that his recent memory affected. remote memory means memory of evnets that happend months or years back.
the scenario metiones only the loss of recent memory , which is memory events that occured some minute ago. this may be temporary or permenant . this occur due to brain injury affecting the memory functionnareas of brain like limbic system , hippocampus..
2 . here the same person became very old , 77 years, he is having difficulty in hearing ,
this may be the normal age related changes or this can be accelerated by the past trauma he sustained and resulting nerve damages , which was progressive .
normaly after 55 years also , there will be sensorineural hearing loss will occur , due to cumulative effects of repeated exposure to noices ,
so the hearing loss of this person is age relared . with some contribution from the past trauma.
