Expert Solution

Multiple Sclerosis is a demyelinating disease in which our immune system is assumed to infect our myelin-producing cells and destroy the myelin sheath around the axons of the neurons in the Central Nervous System. There are many causes such as auto-immunity, myelin cells disability to produce enough myelin, virus related.

This disease is neuro-degenerative as many macrophages enter the CNS and try to destroy myelin sheath and hence-forth the communication signals between the neurons are destroyed which leads to devastating effects as the master controller is damaged.

The exact causes are still studied.

Thus, the research which includes the study of genetic factors ( specific genes involved or gene products) or environmental factors or viral or autoimmune problems which cause the disease, factors involved in the progression of the disease, the diagnosis and the therapeutic and other measures for the treatment and prevention of the disease includes Multiple Sclerosis research.

And the centers for the research are all over the world such as John Hopkins Medicine, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and other Neuroscience and Brain research centers all over the world. You may search online as there are many centres doing research focussed on MS disease.
