Construct a sketch to show the working of an air handler of the blow-through type with cooling and
heating coils in series? Clearly label all parts and components and briefly explain its working?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Working of the Blow-through type Air handling unit:

  • The Fresh air and return air are mixed to the required proportions in the MIXING CHAMBER. The quatities of both are being adjusted by flaps or dampers.
  • The blower unit contains a CENTRIFUGAL FAN which circulates the air and maintains the draft in the system.
  • The air from the mixing chamber is sucked through a filter medium and blown through a COOLER where the air is cooled and dehumified. Then it passses through the humidifier where it gets humidified as required.
  • Now the air passes through a heating coil and is discharged to the accomodation spaces.
  • Heater is just a steam coil.
  • Cooler is the evaporator section of a conventional airconditioning system.
