With the aid of sketch, explain the main differences between window type air-conditioner and split type air-conditioner. Why the window type and split type air-conditioner is not commonly used for high rise commercial building?

Solutions

Expert Solution

#Ans1- I have to draw sketches so I used handwritten note which you can find in below image:

#Ans2- For the high rise buildings we use Centralised Air Conditioning System because using window or split type AC is not economically viable as window AC or split AC generally used for small spaces therefore these units cannot satisfactorily cool the large halls, auditoriums, waiting area etc.

Air enters a window air conditioner at 1 atm, 36oC and 75% relative humidity (??) at a rate of 12m3/min and it leaves as saturated air at 18oC. Part of the moisture in the air which condenses during the process is also removed at 18oC. Determine (a) the rate of heat (Q?) and (b) moisture removal from the air. (c) What-if Scenario: What would the rate of heat removal be if moist air entered the dehumidifier at 95 kPa instead...

A window-mounted air conditioner supplies 19 m3/min of air at 15°C, 1 bar to a room. Air returns from the room to the evaporator of the unit at 22°C. The air conditioner operates at steady state on a vapor-compression refrigeration cycle with Refrigerant 22 entering the compressor at 4 bar, 10°C. Saturated liquid refrigerant at 11.5 bar leaves the condenser. The compressor has an isentropic efficiency of 70%, and refrigerant exits the compressor at 11.5 bar. Determine: (a) the compressor...

The air conditioner operates at steady state on a vapor-compression refrigeration cycle with Refrigerant 22 entering the compressor at 4 bar, 10°C. Saturated liquid refrigerant at 9 bar leaves the condenser. The compressor has an isentropic efficiency of 70%, and refrigerant exits the compressor at 9 bar. Determine: (a) the compressor...

Please include detailed work for answers. A window air conditioner uses 1272 W of electricity and has a coefficient of performance of 3.64. For simplicity, let's assume that all of that electrical energy is transformed into work done by the air conditioner to cool a room with dimensions of 7 m x 7 m x 3 m. The air inside this room will initially have the same temperature as the air outside (318 K) and the air conditioner will attempt...
