Antibiotic target in bacteria are,
1) The cell wall or membrane that surrounds the bacterial cell. Antibiotics including penicillin works by attacking the cell wall of bacteria. The drugs prevent the bacteria from synthesising a molecule in the cell wall called peptidoglycan which provides the wall with the strength it needs to survive in the human body.
2)The machinery that produce proteins(the ribosomes and associated proteins ). The key role of bacterial ribosomes makes it an important target for antibacterial agents. High resolution structural data of many ribosomes bound antibiotic provides unprecedented into their molecular contacts and mode of action and inspire the design and synthesis of new candidate drugs that target this fascinating molecular machine.
Antibiotics are effective used to treat bacterial infections. They work by killing bacteria or preventing them from reproducing and spreading.
