Which of these component parts are readily soluble in the bloodstream and which are not? Monosaccharides, amino acids, glycerol, fatty acids, triacylglycerols, sterols. Explain.
The solubility of solute in solvent depends on the following factors:
Solute |
Solvent |
|
Polar |
Non-polar |
|
Ionic |
Soluble |
Insoluble |
Polar |
Soluble |
Insoluble |
Non-Polar |
Insoluble |
Soluble |
Thus if solute is ionic or polar means it dissolves in polar solvents like water, acetone etc and if solute is non- polar means it does not dissolve in polar solvents like water, acetone etc ; it dissolves in non-polar solvent like benzene, carbon tetrachloride.
Blood stream are polar in nature, thus it can be dissolve polar compounds like Monosaccharides, amino acids, glycerol while fatty acids, triacylglycerols, sterols are nonpolar which are not soluble in Blood stream.
Monosaccharides, amino acids, glycerol have polar O-H and N-H bonds.
