Environmental awareness is very important among employees of a company which is registered to the ISO 14001 standard. Organisation registered under ISO 14001 has to follow environment management system standards and policies for protecting environment as well as for improving performance. Organisations has to identify, manage and control the activities that has a direct or indirect impact on the environment.

1. In order to proceed the need for environmental awareness among employees organisation has to describe the benefits and the need to protect the environment or the importance of environment management system to employees. Environmental awareness trainings and educational classes can be provided to employees inorder to promote environment management system. Educating employees by giving examples and case studies of successful organisations which has improved their performance through following standards of environment management system is also effective way to promote the need for following environmental standards.

2. Specific steps to be followed for promoting environmental awareness among employees includes: firstly, Organisation has to clearly identify and define the environmental goal that the company wants to achieve. For example, Goal to improve the performance of the company, reducing pollution, offering quality products etc. The next step is to frame the policies and procedures to be followed. Once the goal, policies and procedures to be followed are clear then the organisation has to appoint a person or leader with necessary authority to convey it to employees. The leader has to clarify the need for managing the environment and standards to be followed. Conducting training pograms in this regard helps to communicate the policies, environmental impacts, procedures etc. Continuous monitoring of performance of employeesis important and has to evaluate the results of training through questionnaire and surveys. Once employees are made aware about the environment management system and standards then the next step is to implement. After the implementing and practising the standards and policies the organisation has to analyse the gap between the standard set and the actual performance. Finally, evaluate the progress and communicate the achievements with the employees. If the results are positive then it shows that employees joined for the training programme has significantly changed their behavior towards the environment as well as their performance.

3. The success can be ensured or measured by evaluating the progress of employees in their performance with respect to the environmental standards set as well as by conducting survey and questionnaire. If the employees has changed their environmental behavior and started to value environment then it shows positive results in their performance as well as the success of the awareness training.. If there is no improvements in the behavior of employees or with the performance of the organisation then that ultimately depicts the failure of training programmes conducted by the organisation.
