A cell phone sends and receives electromagnetic waves in the microwave frequency range.

a) Explain the physics of how an oscillator creates these waves.

b) Research the possible side effects of using cell phones. Citing at least three websites

that you consider reliable, write a short 100- to 150-word paragraph summarizing

three main conclusions based on your research and your opinion; in other words, will

your cell phone usage change, based on what you have learned?

Solutions

Expert Solution

A cell phone send and receives electromagnetic waves in the microwave frequency range by various analog and digital signals simultaneously.

working of an oscillator creating these waves:

A signal received by system i.e analog has base carrier frequency which then amplified by the electronic circuits or varying the signal by varying frequency & amplitude to add information or omit noise. These analog signals are mainly of sine or cosine form. Therefore by fluctuating the parameters of sinusoidal waves data can be transferred, example - microphone.

Advance mobile system uses 824-894MHz frequency to send or recieve signals. Therefore the oscillator consist of several crucial electronics circuit converts analog signal to digital at their working frequency mainly MHz. Current mobiles have around 395 voice channels which can easily help to maintain the quality of transmission of signals.

- Side effects of using mobile phones:

1. Mobile phone uses electromagnetic waves to transfer information and em waves interacts with matter which these waves come in contact with human organs, sue to their high oscillations(08-1Ghz) they can affect the soft tissues of human body and can damage cells.

2. Continuous and high usage of these waves can cause enough damage to soft / skin cells results in various diseases.

3. The screen of mobile phones emits blue light which causes damage to eye cornea and till now it is not curable.

Results/Conclusion:

1. As mobiles are basic needs of today world, they have become one of the fundamental requirement, the changes must be in developing the mobiles in lower frequencies so that electromagnetic radiation effect gets less, making less blue light screens etc.

2. Usage of mobile phone must be limited to certain time of period.

A maser is a laser-type device that produces electromagnetic waves with frequencies in the microwave and radio-wave bands of the electromagnetic spectrum. You can use the radio waves generated by a hydrogen maser as a standard of frequency. The frequency of these waves is 1,420,405,751.786 hertz. (A hertz is another name for one cycle per second.) A clock controlled by a hydrogen maser is off by only 1 ss in 100,000 years. (The large number of significant figures given for...
