Can produce memory cells 2. require contact with antigen presenting cells to be activated 3. are found in lymph nodes and spleen 4. produce and secrete antibodies 5. contribute to cell mediated immunity 6. can respond to cytokines

Solutions

Expert Solution

  1. Can produce memory cells - B cells, B memory cells are produced from the sensitized mature B cells after the primary immune response is over. These memory cells can quickly differentiate into plasma B cells without a lag period on the onset of secondary infection.
  2. Require contact with antigen presenting cells to be activated- T cells require contact with APCs to secrete cytokines in order to activate naive B cells and CTLs. APCs represent antigents by means of MHCs.
  3. Are found in lymph nodes and spleen- Both, Lymph nodes and spleen are lymphoid organs where lymphocytes are present in higher concentration than blood. Both B and T lymphocytes are present in lymph nodes and spleen.
  4. Produce and secrete antibodies - B cells, Mature plasma B cells secrete antibodies after stimulation by cytokines secreted by helper T cells.
  5. Contribute to cell mediated immunity - T cells or Cytotoxic T cells contribute to cellular immunity by means of lysis of the infected cells and pathogens.
  6. Can respond to cytokines- Both, Naive B cells and CTLs are activated by means of cytokines secreted by the helper T cells.
