A patient with COPD who is breathing on hypoxic drive is undergoing an IPPB treatment to prevent impending respiratory failure. How would you adjust the Fio2? Describe the difference in this adjustment between a Bird versus a Bennette machine
IPPB is also called as intermittent positive pressure ventilation is a technique that provides intermittent mechanical ventilation via a mouth piece attached in order to promote lung expansion.
It is an inspiration using a non invasion ventilation like that of a bird with a pressure boost. The person initiates an inspiration with a positive pressure support followed by airway pressure returning to atmospheric pressure with expiration.
The bird mark 7 ventilation is an pressure cycled device convenient to use ippb as an adjuvant for physiotherapy in a spontaneous breathing patient.
It is known to improve inspiration and support weak inspiratory muscle.
FiO2- it is known that administration of fio2 in patient with copd is known to cause hypercapnia which may occur due to reversal of preexisting regional hypoxia and pulmonary Vasoconstriction and a greater dead space. Hence low fio2 may be given
Bennett 590 oxygen concentrate is known to take normal room air and uses the series of sieves filters and a compressor which removes nitrogen from air there by increasing oxygen content to upto 96 %.
Indicated - chronic respiratory elements.
Birds has pressure swing Adsorbtion technology that can adjust flow rate. If necessary it can be fitted. Power failure alarm, pressure alarm, low purity alarm, double flow meter control for two patient.
