Compare and contrast skills needed by the nurse who works in an occupational health setting versus those needed by the nurse who works in a critical care unit
Compare and contrast these advanced practice roles: clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, and nurse anesthetist. How would you explain the differences to a layperson?
A-Occupational nurses work to prevent, investigate, and treat workplace-related illnesses and injuries. They work to assess a workplace to identify the possible hazards. They should have the skills to develop health promotional education programs and refer employees from outside health care resources.
Critical Care unit nurses have to be able to care for critically ill patients following extensive injury, life-threatening injury, or any surgical procedure. They should have the following skills: strong clinical, assessment, communication, and observational skills. They should also have leadership skills to take the initiative for treatment and outcomes of that procedure for a critically ill person.
