Main functions of the nervous system. Some axons and dendrites are coated with a sheath made of Schwann cells. What is the functions of this covering.
The nervous system consists of Brain and Spinal Cord.
Its Its main functions are broadly three:-
1. The sensory system carry the information or input from the external environment to the brain via the sensory nerves.
For example if our hand touches a hot rod ,this information is carried to the brains.
2. The sensory input is then processed in the brain . For example to remove the hand
3. The motor system conveys the message to the periphery or to the hand . For example we remove the hand.
Beside all the vitals function like respiration ,breathing etc are also controlled by the nervous system.
Some exons and demdrites are coated with sheath of schwann cells , this makes portions of uncoating in between them . They are called nodes of ranvier. They are helpful in nerve regenration . And they lead to saltatory function means the nerve conduction will be in a form of jumping movement from one node of ranvier to other. It helps in faster conduction .
Scwann cells function in phagocytosis of damaged nerve cells.
