In the Ohio State Leadership Studies a leader could rate high or low on either dimension. This allowed for the development of a two-dimensional view of leadership.
Ohio State Leadership Studies is a Behavioural Studies done in 1945 to observe th behavior of the leader and their consequences. These studies came with interesting results that help to decide the high or the low of the leader. According to the result found a leader it is found that a leader can have two-dimensional behavior.
1. Initiating Structure Behaviour - This behavior defines a leader's subordinate role. This may help others to understand what is the expected line of communication and what task is likely to be performed.
2. Consideration Behaviour - This id the behavior that helps to create warm, healthy, friendly, and subordinate behavior. This behavior is distinct from the Initiating Behaviour, hence both do not mutually depend on each other. It means a low score in one should not be considered high in others.
This creates four probability regarding the image of the leader.
(a.) High Structure and High Consideration, (b.) High Structure and Low Consideration.
(c.) Low Structure and High Consideration, (d.) Low Structure and Low Consideration.
