Proposed Dissertation title-

Determinants of Bilateral trade between India and US in the Manufacturing sector : An Empirical Analysis

[NOTE-This title is clear and precise and indicates what the research work is all about]

Research Questions or Hypothesis-

The specific objectives of our study are-

I.To analyses the trend and pattern of trade between India and US during the study period.

II. To examine the determinants of India-US bilateral trade.

To analyse the objectives, we attempt to test the following two hypothesis which is mentioned below-

Ho= There is no significant relationship between trade and difference in real GDP of a the trading partners.

H1=There is a signifcant relationship between trade and difference in real GDP of the trading partners.

H0 = There exists statistically significant relationship between trade and the difference in Factor endowments of the trading partners.

H2=There do not exist statistically significant relationship between trade and the difference in Factor endowments of the trading partners.

This study is concerned with the following research questions-

1. Is there any significant relationship between trade and income inequality in the trading partners?

2. Does Trade liberalisation policies promote trade between India and US?

Review of Literature/Background Information

Going through an extensive amount of literature in trade, we found a plethora of studies which dealt with trade between India and US. In this section, an attempt have been made to review a few of them.

Author name, et.al (et.al is used in case of many authors)1980,in their study titled, ".......(XYZ.).....", studies the relationship between exports and trade barriers between India and US during the period 1970 to 1979. They used the gravity model of trade to examine the relationship between exports and trade barriers. By using Logit regression analysis, they concluded that exports from one country to another depends upon trade barriers.

Author name, 1995, made an analysis of the trend and pattern of inter-industry trade among India's major trading partners, in their study titled-"......ABC.....". Using secondary data, they conducted their survey across seven countries namely- India, China, US, Japan,UAE, Singapore and Hong Kong. The results of their study indicated a fluctuating trend in trade across various countries.

Expected Contribution-

The present study is expected to make the following contributions into the existing literature-

1. Nowadays, no country can survive and develop alone in isolation. Every country is connected with one another throough international trade. Thus, an updated stock of knowledge and information regarding the trade scenerios is very important. This study aims to make an addition stock to the existing literature through its updated research work.

2. While analysing the trend, pattern and determinants of India-US bilateral trade, this study will be in a position to make reccomendations in government policies to strengthen the trade relations between both the countries.

Research Methodology-

Data sources- in this study, we have used secondary data extracted from World Bank database and various other government publications like.....A,B,C etc.The time period of the study ranges from 1990 to 2019. The purpose of choosing 1990 is due to unavailability of data before 1990.

The methodology of this study is discussed below-

The study uses various statistical tools like graphs, charts and table to analyse the first objective. For the second objective the study uses the gravity model of trade to examine the determinants of trade to estimate panel regression analysis. The model is written as-

Ln Tr= a0 + a1 Ln GDP + a2 Ln Inc + a3 Ln f endo + a4 pol + e

Where, T is trade, GDP is gross domestic product, Inc is income, Endo is factor endowment, pol is policies and e is the error term.
