Discuss what series of events may lead to septicemia and how it should be prevented and treated.
Septicemia or sepsis is the medical condition in which infection enters the blood stream and spread to the multiple parts of the body. Septicemia can be caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses. But mainly bacterial infection leads to the cause of septicemia.
Generally lung infection like pneumococcal infection leads to septicemia. In this the bacterial infection from lungs spread to all over the body through blood stream. The chemicals that produced from the microbes causes infection. Due to the infection, body's immune system responses and produce multiple antibodies. The interaction between antibodies and microbial antigens results in the damage of body's healthy cells and leads to organ damages. Hence untreated septicemia leads to death due to multiple organ failure.
Severe breathing, fever, caugh, rashes on skin are starting symptoms of septicemia. It can be treated by using antibiotics and steroids as medication. And also by taking extra care like providing ventilation, intravenous fluids injection, hospitalization.
For prevention of septicemia proper cleaning of skin wounds, Avoiding infection from hospitals, proper vaccination, clearing urinary tract infections, etc., As mainly pneumococcal infections leads to septicemia, vaccination to such bacteria is best method for prevention of such deadly disease.
