Q1.

Some disadvantages of web applications are:

  1. Web based applications are more reliant on the internet hence , if the internet goes down due to some reason or the other then the user may not be able to access the web application at all as opposed to a native application that may be available in case of a network failure.
  2. Speed of the operations in web apps may be lesser than operating speeds of the application hosted on a local server and installed application.
  3. Compatibility may be an issue because not all browsers support the functionality that is expected also, layout issues are more frequent from one browser to another because of varying screen size.
  4. Security issues may arise in the cloud based web applications which are absent from locally hosted applications.
  5. The development of Web applications require more skilled workforce in terms of technology stack , hence web applications may not be a viable option for the organisations with tight budget.
  6. Device platform may again pose an issue of compatibility since it can be accessed by devices of varying operating systems and certain access features like push notifications are software dependent.
  7. Access restrictions to the device hardware are also an issue in the web applications
  8. Web browsers even though allow full screen(which needs to be selected) still cover the viewport and hinder the full screen view of the web application so web applications can cover lesser viewport as compared to full screen native applications.
  9. Even though we can bookmark web applications, it still can't beat the same one-click access of the native application.
  10. Issues pertaining to orientation (portrait or landscape) may be present in the web applications. Which are absent from the native applications which provide default orientation which may be restrictive but surely is much user friendly.
