Psychiatric disorders refer to a wide range of health conditions that encompass disturbances in an individual's mental, behavioral, cognitive and emotional state. Psychiatric disorders are also called 'mental illnesses' or 'mental disorders'. These disorders impair a person's normal day to day functioning both at professional and personal level. The illness may come and go in a single episode, it may relapse or it may be chronic and long-term.

Psychiatric disorders are diagnosed by concerned professionals like psychiatrists and clinical psychologists who also try to proovide therapy and treatment. 

Most psychiatric disorders fall into few categories. Some  common psychiatric disorders are:

Anxiety disorders like generalized anxiety disorder (GAD),

Moood disorders like depression,

Psychotic disorders like schizophrenia,

Addictive behaviors, 

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) etc.
