Structural adaptation that allowed plants to grow tall?

Structural adaptation that allowed plants to grow tall?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer. Unlike animals, plants cannot change their position, so whenever conditions are not favorable as per them they always show adaptations in order to meet their survival.

Generally, the plants show the structural adaptations of height to get the maximum sunlight. Plants growing in dense forests like Tropical rain forests show such type of adaptations to gain maximum sunlight. As sunlight provide all the energy to carry on the photosynthesis, thus to acquire this plants sometimes develop climbing structures derived from roots or shoots, or sometimes epiphytic roots that grow on the other plants. With the help of these structures, plant reach out maximum to gain the sunlight. More sunlight means more photosynthesis, more photosynthesis means more food production, means the cells inside plants will divide more quickly because if the increased activity of the meristematic cells. More tracheids, vessels and living tissue will be added, leading to the increase in height.

Plant Biodiversity and Adaptation. Discuss how adaptations allowed plants to move from an aquatic environment to the variety of habitats they inhabit today. You may wish to start out discussing single-celled algae and include the transition from prokaryotes to eukaryotes. At the beginning or end of the essay, it may be helpful to write about plants that you have observed (using correct scientific nomenclature) and consider their traits and habitat. Then explain why those traits are adaptive, and how they...

In garden peas, tall plants are dominant to short plants and smooth seeds are dominant over wrinkled seeds. If two heterozygous tall plants with smooth seeds (TtRr) are crossed, what are the potential genotypes and phenotypes that can be expected in the offspring? What is the genotype of the parents? What are the gametes for each parent? What is the phenotypic ratio? What proportion of the Tall plants with smooth seeds is heterozygous for both traits?

Research 3 plants that grow in the northeastern part of the U.S. The plants you choose should have some practical use for humans, whether it be for food production, medicinal uses, landscaping value, etc. For example, you could choose a plant that was used as a food source for early European settlers, a plant that Native Americans used to treat ailments, or a plant that was used to synthesize a pharmaceutical we use currently. Virtual Memory. When processes are allowed to grow larger than memory, page tables also grow very large. How could we organize page tables and TLB to keep access times as quick as possible for codes with good locality? For example, assume physical memory is 512K, each page is 1K, and a TLB of size 128. If we assume most processes are 256K or less, then we could allocate a fixed-size page table with 256 entries. Now in the unexpected case,...
