DESCRIPTION OF PLANT:

It is a type of tall marshy reedy plants found mainly in temperate and cold regions.This plants inhabit fresh to slightley brackish waters and are aquatic or semiaquatic.These are grown and uses for flower arrangements and also there leaves are used for making mats and chair seats. And also the starchy rhizomes are eaten in some places.This plant is 1.5 to 3 metres in height and it has 2 to 4 metres broad leaves and it grow to a depth of 0.75 to 1 metres under water.

Cattails are upright perennial plants that emerge from creeping rhizomes.Female flower is in cylindical shape and the male flower is located above the female flower.After releasing the pollen the male flowers fall off leaving the furry fruiting spikes.

It have a high medicinal value because of its astringent effects.The herb is used as a diaphoretic,astringent,tonic,stimulant and mild aromatic.It contains an essential oil called proazulenes which killes mosquito larves.It is also planted to prevent soil erosion.Yarrow leaves can be applied to wounds to stimulate blood clotting and drinking atea from its flowers can be remedy for variety of ailments including colds,flue,headache etc.

Yarrow grows from sea level at an elevation of 3500 metres.The plant commonly flowers from may to july.Its active growth occures in spring.It provides food and shelter for many birds and insects.
