A dissertation proposal of about 500 words on this topic: Operations Management (Evaluation and analysis of tools and models applied in operations management and its contribution to achieving a green supply chain
Answer:
Green Supply Chain Management (GrSCM) aims to integrate environmental thinking into supply chain management. The tenet of GSCM is to minimize or eliminate wastages including hazardous chemical, emissions, energy and solid waste along supply chain. Thus, Green supply chain management is defined as "the process of using inputs that are environmentally friendly and transforming these inputs into outputs that can be reclaimed and re-used at the end of their life cycle thus, creating a sustainable supply chain.
The basic tools and models of operations management that can be used for green supply chain management are lean model and six sigma model. Lean model, when implemented across the supply chain management, helps in the reduction of wastage from the entire process by reducing wastages from the individual processes. Lean model ensures that the supply chain management is environmentally sustainable. Six sigma is a strategy of reducing errors from the operation. Reducing errors ensure that the products are not required to reprocess thus saving the extra energy required to bring about renovation. This helps in reducing effluents in the environment to certain extent.
