Process theory is related with the process of motivation and it is basically concerned with how motivation occurs in an individual. There are certain psychological and behavioral process which motivate a person to act in a particular way. This theory analyses the reason behind the motivation and examine how a person needs with affect the behavior in order to achieve a particular goal related to the needs of the individual.
Need theory of of motivation is a Theory which is proposed by psychologist David McClellan. He states that how the need for achievement, power and affiliation affects the the action of people. This theory states that any individuals specific needs are acquired over a long time and shaped by his life's experience. The Motivation and effectiveness with respect to his job functions are influenced by all of these three needs which are discussed in detail-
1. Achievement- people who want to achieve break in life always tend to avoid both low risk and high this situation because they easily attend success through their hard work. They always believe that success is attained by consistent hard work and do not believe in being too much risky. They always prefer to work alone with other achievers who had the similar mental attitude.
2. Affiliation- people with need for affiliation need good relationship with other people and they need to feel accepted by other people. They always tend to confirm to the norms of the work group and they perform well in customer service and client interaction situation.
3. Power- a persons need for power can be divided into two different types one is personal and other is positional. Personal power is the one which any person with his own hard work and on way of living things. Personal power is always achieved when other people believe in him and positional power is achieved with respect to a position or authority given by some other people. For example a person who is promoted to a senior post by the chief executive officer of the company is given position of power.
