The Gordon's functional health pattern is a method used to evaluate a patient's comprehensive assessment by nurses.

The eleven functional health patterns are assessed - Health perception or management, nutritional- metabolic, elimination, activity-exercise, cognitive-perceptual,sleep-rest,self perception-self concept,role-relationship, sexuality-reproductive,coping-stress tolerance, value - belief. The data received by assessment can be used to cluster and preplan the patient care around several tasks.

1) Health perception pattern describes compliance with medication regimen, use of health promotion activities like checkups and exercise

2) nutritional- metabolic describes pattern of food and fluid consumption which helps to know the condition of skin, teeth, hair, nail, mucous membrane, height and weight

3) elimination descibes urinary and bowel function

4) activity describes exercise, hobbies, daily life activities, also cardiovascular and respiratory status

5) cognitive describes language, memory, decision making as well as sensory like vision, hearing, smell, touch, taste, pain perception

6)sleep describes quality and quantity of sleep and routines

7)self concept describes body comfort ,feeling about self, body language, eye contact etc

8)role -relationship describes social, family work relationship and perception of major roles and responsibilities

9) sexuality describes number of pregnancy and childbirth, difficulies in sexual function

10)coping describes stress tolerance

Ruling out the datas by this functional pattern from this have helped me in clustering
