Role Of Marketing
Introduction : Marketing is a social process by which individuals and groups obtain what they need and want through creating , offering and freely exchanging goods and services of value with others.
Role of marketing :
1. Gathering and analysing market information
Marketing helps to identify the needs of the customers. By playing this role market research is the main tool of operation. While gathering information marketer focuses on the opportunites and threats in the market and uses their strength to grab those opportunities and plan to overcome their weaknesses. Companies may use internet sites , SMS facilities to collect information.
2. Product designing and development
Marketing plays a vital role in product designing and development as per the need of the existing customers and prospective customers . Market research helps to decide the desired quality standards , shape, design , packaging of the products etc.
3. Standardization and grading
Standardization means maintaining quality standards to achieve uniformity in the product .Grading means classifying the products on some basis ( like by size , quality , shape etc). Grading is necessary when companies are not following strictly the technique of standardization. By marketing , marketer can use the technique of standardization and grading for getting more revenue .
4. Packaging and labelling
Decision about packaging and labelling is a role of marketing. Package is acting like a silent sales man and labelling helps the customers to find important information about the products. Marketing guides the enterprise to make the package attractive and the labels more unique in nature.
5. Branding
Marketing plays an important role to make the branding strong enough . Branding means giving a special name to the product .Companies may decide to sell their product in company's name or they may decide a special brand name for their products. Like Ferrari uses their company's name as brand name. Where as Procter & Gamble uses special brand name for their most demanded detergent called "Tide".
6. Customer support services
Marketing facilitates customer support services as now a days customers are the king pin of the market. Marketing activities provide handling customers complaints , after sales service , maintenance service , consumer information and technical services .
7. Pricing of products
Customers are price sensitive , so setting up price of the product is the prime concern of the marketing activities . At the time of setting the price of the product, marketer must focus on the utilities provided by the product , competitors price , financial ability of the customers etc.
8. Promotion and selling
Marketing activities are also concerned with promotional efforts to increase sales. It always try to communicate the name and utilities of the products to existing and prospective customers through advertisement , sales promotion , publicity and personal selling.
9. Physical distribution
Under Marketing activities the decision on choice of distribution channel, maintaining inventories , storage ,warehouses etc are taken to facilitates steady supply of goods and services.
Conclusion : Now a days when the market is purely competitive in all round , without marketing efforts , products are not been sold to the customers . So the above discussed role of marketing are very vital and considerable for development of the business .
