Two forms of departmentalization based on the company that I am working in (I work for a pharmaceutical company) are:
(i): Functional departmentalization – The company has different departments like R&D (research and development), finance and accounts, marketing, production etc. Each function is organized as a different department and each department has a vice president that reports to the CEO of the company. So the company has VP-Finance, VP-Production etc. and all of them report to the CEO of the company.
(ii): Geographical departmentalization – Besides functional departmentalization the company also has geographical departmentalization as the company has operations spread across various countries across the globe. So there is a department for Americas, one for Europe, one for Africa and one for Asia Pacific.
The following are the Examples of Geographical Departmentalization and Functional Departmentalization respectively :
