Explain why it is good public policy to regulate the market for human organs. What should be the policy goal or goals of such regulation? What types of regulations should the government adopt? Why?
Ans. It is a good policy to regulate the market for human organs because large number of people die daily due to failure of organs because there are very few organs available for transplant and till the time an organ is arranged , the person already dies. Hence it is good as well as important to regulate the market so that large number of organs are available for transplant and people do not die before their ages.
The goal of such a regulation should be to provide subsidized organs for transplantation to those people whose organs are damaged. In this way , those who cannot afford organs which are very higher at rate will be able to buy them as they will be available at subsidized rates.
The regulations to be adopted are
1. Organ banks : Same as blood banks, the organ banks should be made so that there are many organs available to everyone at cheap rates and everyone is able to afford getting the transplant.
2. Organ donation : The people should be encouraged to donate organs so that excessive organs are available for everyone to get transplanted because lesser the organs , more will be the price of that organ but if large number of organs are available then the rates will be less and affordable .
3. Subsidised rates : The organs should be available at the subsidised rates so that everyone can afford them and nobody faces discrimination.
