Consider your work environment, domain of interest, or everyday life, and identify two variables that are positively correlated and two variables that are negatively correlated. Explain why your correlation examples are positive and negative. Make sure you note when the positive correlations are really negative events, and vice versa. For example, Smoking cigarettes has a positive correlation to cancer. Yet, getting cancer is a negative event. While there is a negative correlation to how many desserts one has per day and weight gain. This is a negative correlation, but a positive result.

In everyday life, two variables which can be stated as positively correlated mainly include the support from coworkers and self esteem. This can be said as positively correlated with work and everyday life as it is directly proportional to the increase in the performance of the person. However, variable such as harrassment, or lack of facilities can cause the opposite effect and can be stated as having a negative correlation with everyday life and performance in work.
I have observed two such variables which are positively correlated to each other. These are work performance and training imparted. A worker getting training and skill development activities from my organization shows better performance results. A regular training interventions lead to successful career development to them . Training helps in fullfilling the gaps of work related knowledge and capabilities among workers.
Two variables which are negatively correlated :
When we have reduced the incentives, workers agitations and indisciplines at workplace has increased significantly. There was an inverse relationship between these two set of variables. Getting a low incentive generally increases the dissatisfaction among employees. It causes the above inverse relationship.
Examples of positive correlation :
1 . the longer your hair grows , the more shampoo you will need
2 . the more time you spend running on a treadmill , the more calories you will burn
3 . As you drink more coffee , the number of hours you stay awake increases
4 . as a child grows , so does his clothing size
5 . the more you excercise your muscles , the stronger they get
Examples of negative correlation :
1 . A student who has many absences has a decrease in grades
2 . As weather gets colder, air conditioning costs decrease
3 . If its darker outside , more light is needed inside
4 . As one excercises more , his body weight becomes less
5 . The older a man gets , the less hair that he has
