What are the possible health conditions if your client absent of corneal reflex?
Normally corneal reflex mediated by 1)nasociliary branch of trigeminal nerve ,sensing the stimulus in corneal only.
2) zygomotic or temporal branch of facial nerve initiating the motor response.
3) center is in pons and brainstem.
If there is any alteration in these , it causes disease condition.
Disease conditions are:
-Absence of corneal reflex . indicates deep coma or strok , either unilateral or bilateral.
- Unilateral loss may indicate the lesion in the facial ot trigeminal nerve .
-Facial / bells palsy ( facial paralysis results from dysfunction of facial cranial nerve)
- synkinesis of facial muscles( involuntary movement due to miswiring of nerve after trauma).
- acoustic neuroma( a slow growing tumor of nerve that connects the ear to the brain)
-lesion in brain stem or spinal cord.
- multiple sclerosis ( a chronic autoimmune disorders that affecting movement sensation and bodily function , Caused by destruction of mylein insulation covering nerve fibers in the CNS).
