• Government health expenditure accounts for 17.5 % of GDP of country, that is approximately to 3 trillion dollar. Further, economic estimates suggest that government health expenditure is likely to shoot up in future.

Sustainable or not:

• US government aims at achieving target of balanced budget by 2035. On other hand, growth rate of GDP is tapering off which makes it difficult to sustain same level of spending on health.
• Expenditure on defense is high due to strained international relations.
• Government must increase growth rate and reduce expenditure on defense.
