The appearance of monumental architecture in the ancient world was often associated with hierarchical agricultural societies. Was this the case for the Peruvian coast?
The studies and research on the ancient world societies of the Peruvian coast of which the monumental architecture was an integral part shows that these societies were hierarchical and were mainly fishing societies, though they grew plants mainly cotton. The other plants that they grew included bottle gourd, squash, chilli peppers etc. Hence, it can be concluded that the appearance of monumental architecture in the ancient world of the Peruvian coast was also associated with hierarchical agricultural societies.
