Anti social personality disorder is characterized by gross violation of social norms ,laws and rights of others. It is part Of Cluster B personality disorders and is more common in males than in females.
According to DSM 5 at least 3 of 7 criteria must be present since 15 years of age
1 failure to conform to social norms and laws, leading to arrests
2 deceitfullness/ lying
3 agression
4 impulsivity
5 recklessness - disregard for others safety
6 lack of responsibility
7 lack of remorse or guilt
Age being 18 years , with history suggestive of conduct disorder before 15 years of age.
People with Antisocial personality disorder are more likely to get involved in crimes and hence important to forensic psychology.
1 They may get involved in accidents due to reckless driving.
2 they may get involved in substance abuse and drug trafficking.
3 they may show impulsive sexual behaviour and deviant sexual behaviour/ Paraphilias.
4 they may be involved in homicidal crimes, hate crimes, thefts and robbery.
5 when caught, they may also feign a psychiatric illness to escape punishment by using insanity as a defence. Psychometric tests are thus important in their evaluation.
ASPD are at risk of future criminal behavior and also ASPDs are more common in criminal who are facing prosecution.
