Antisocial personality disorder
Antisocial personality disorder is also called sociopath, it is a mental disorder in which a person consistently manipulate, exploit or violate the rights of others. They show no guilt or remorse for their behaviour. Individuals with antisocial personality disorder usually violate laws and become criminals. It typically begins in childhood or early adolescence and continuous to adulthood.
Cause of this disorder is unknown. A person's family history or other factors like child abuse might lead to this disorder
Clinical manifestation of this disorder includes criminal behaviour with no remorse, failure to conform to the law, inability to fulfil responsibilities, manipulation for personal gain, aggression towards people, disregard for right and wrong.
Treatment
An antisocial personality disorder is very difficult to treat.
Psychotherapy
•Cognitive behavioural therapy is a common treatment. Therapists help to manage a person' ss negative thought and can develop interpersonal skills
•Psychodynamic psychotherapyincreasese awareness of negative and unconscious thought.
Medications
No special medications are used for antisocial personality disorder.
But medications like mood stabilizer antidepressants, anti-anxiety or antipsychotic medications are prescribed according to patient symptoms.
