  1. pregnancy and motherhood is very challenging in case of diet. A pregnant lady should get 1800 to 2400 calories from a balanced diet per day. During 1st trimester she should get 1800 calories , 2200 towards the 2nd trimester and in the last 3 months as the baby grows rapidly she needs 2400 calories a day.
  2. Usually recommendation of all micro and macro nutrients are not met from her daily diet. So obstetrician will recommend folic acid supplement during the 1st 3 month and calcium supplement during the entire 3 trimesters. Along with that vit.D and iron supplements also they are providing inorder to counter act with the deficienies. Folic acid is very important in order to defend neural tube defects such as spina bifida. Iron is given to prevent megaloblastic and iron deficiency anemia. Calcium and vit.D is is to ensure musculoskeletal strength as a pregnant ladies body is fighting with so much of bine and muscle stress during her pregnancy. it also prevent rickets in children.
  3. the 2 benefits of breast feeding are : protection from infections through innate immunity. And breast feeding is a natural contraception for women. The 2 concerns of breast feeding are-cross infection of communicable disease from mother to baby and some medications taken by the nursing mother may cause little concern for her baby about the side effects of the medications as some medications cross through breast milk.
  4. we can identify the growth of the baby and thus we can confirm he or she is receiving adequate milk or nutrition from her breast feeding. A newborn wil get double of his birth weight by 6 month and get trippled by the age of 1 year if she/he get enough of nourishment through his diet or from formula feed.
  5. 2 strategies - introduce a variety of healthy food stuffs and snacks in front of them and make familiar to all kind of tastes. - give them a sense of awareness about healthy nutrition by various ways like family talks, cookery shows/ stalls.
  6. when feeding an infant it's a mother' s duty to have all healthy diet in her meals. She should concentrate to include high protein and high calorie diet. It's a partner's responsibility to bring all good and healthy food stuffs for her. When feeding a child, it is the parents responsibility to buy or bring all kind of fruits and vegetables to home , cook for their kids and serve them in such a way the kid likes . And a child's s duty is to obey and have an insight on all the sincere efforts of parents and elegantly have or ingest the food which he or she gets. Also parents must care full to avoid all unhealthy dietary habits and discourage them from the period of childhood itself, such as junk foods, spicy outside foods daily, baking and bewerage items.
