What does it mean for a protein or enzyme to be catalytically inactive?
Catalytically inactive in case of protein or enzyme means that certain chemical modifications such as phosphorylation etc bring about a change in the conformation of the active center of the enzyme as a result of which its affinity for the substrate lowers and therefore the rate of reaction decreases. In other words, we can say that the enzyme has become catalytically inactive and cannot speed up the rate of the reaction.
