How do you examine a patient with Appendicitis.
Examine of appendicitis:
The examination of appendicitis include physical and one or more of the following
The physical examination is to identify the pain area in the abdomen by applying pressure, when the pressure is released the patient feels the worsen pain if they have appendicitis . It gives the signal that the peritoneum is inflamed. The abdominal rigidity , tenderness , guarding , pain on percussion is the most specific and common signs during the physical examination of abdomen. There will be positive sign of Rovsings sign during the palpation. It is done where the palpation on the left lower abdomen will increases the pain in the right lower quadrant which shows the positive Rovsings sign and conclude that the patient may have appendicitis. MC Burney's sign is also examined which is the positive sign of acute appendicitis . In MC Burney's sign, the pain is seen over the MC Burney's point that is the point near the umbilicus and anterior part of superior Iliac spine.
The other examination such as blood test , urine test and
imaging test should be done . The blood test is done to check the
value of white blood cells which indicates the infection in the
blood. Urine analysis is done to identify any infection over the
urinary tract. Image testing such as X ray of abdomen , ultrasound
of abdomen , MRI or CT scans are done to conform the appendicitis
for the patients.
