what is the point of a rotavirus vaccine if studies show almost all children at some point develop a rotavirus infection, often times more than once? Are there different strains of rotavirus like the flu? Thank you!
Rotavirus is common in children which results severe diarrhea in them. Before Rotavirus vaccine was invented it was one of the leading cause of infants death. Rotavirus vaccine is very effective against rota virus. Even after rotavirus children may developed rotavirus infection but the chances of the children being hospitalised greatly decreased ny 96% because of vaccine. Vaccine may not prevent diarrhea and vomiting caused by other germs. Two rotavirus vaccines are currently licensed for infants in the United States: RotaTeq® (RV5) is given in 3 doses at ages 2 months, 4 months, and 6 months. Rotarix® (RV1) is given in 2 doses at ages 2 months and 4 months.
There are nine species of the genus, referred to as A, B, C, D, F, G, H, I and J. Rotavirus A, the most common species, causes more than 90% of rotavirus infections in humans. Rotavirus E, which is seen in pigs, has not been confirmed as a distinct species
