What does it mean for a cancer to be classified as, "T3 N1
T and N are used to describe the stage of the cancer.
T stands for tumor and N stands for lymph node. T defines the size and extent of the tumor while N defines the number of nearby lymph nodes that have cancer.
For example, for colorectal cancer T3 N1 means that cancer has spread into the outermost layers of the colon or rectum but has not gone through them. While N1 means it has spread into 1 to 3 nearby lymph nodes.
