How do I calculate a Z-score without an x value?
When we calculate a z score, we then find the probability associated with the z score. So, if x value is not given then we can calculate the z score from the p-value. Either the p-value or the x value must be given to calculate the z score.
Z score from the p-value can be calculated from the z table. In the z-table, for each p-value, there is a value of the z score given.
Given below is a z-table.
The values given are the p-values.
Suppose the p-value is 0.9850. We would first locate the p-value in the table.
The row number corresponding to the p-value of 0.9850 = 2.1
The column number corresponding to the p-value of 0.9850 = 0.07
Hence, the z score is = 2.1 + 0.7 = 2.8
