1) Normal blood pressure during pregnancy is in the healthy range of less than 120/80 mm Hg.
2) Generally the blood pressure defined as force of the blood against the artery walls is too high.
HYPERTENSION DURING PREGNANCY:-
Hypertension during pregnancy is called GESTATIONAL HYPERTENSION.Gestational hypertension starts after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
3) HYPERTENSION DURING PREGNANCY CLASSIFIED AS:-
a) chronic hypertension
b) preeclampsia-eclampsia
c) preeclampsia superimposed on chronic hypertension
d) gestational hypertension
4) MATERNAL COMPLICATIONS OF PREECLAMSIA:-
a) organ problems such as kidney failure, liver failure, pulmonary edema
b) Fits also known as eclampsia
c) blood clotting disorder known as disseminated intravascular coagulation
d) HELLP SYNDROME H for haemolysis,EL for elevated liver enzymes,LP low platelet count
e) Stroke or cerebral haemorrhage
5) preeclampsia affect the arteries carrying blood to the placenta so due to this placenta does not get enough blood so inadequate oxygen and blood and low nutrients received by the baby. This leads to fetal growth restriction means means slower growth of the baby occurs, also leads to low birth weight or preterm birth.
Infants who born preterm have to be hospitalized for more time and preterm infants looks smaller than who born full term
New infants whose mother had preeclampsia also has high risk for diabetes, congestive heart failure.
6) SYMPTOMS AND SIGNS OF PREECLAMPSIA:-
a) severe headache
b) Nausea or vomiting
c) upper abdominal pain
d) excess protein in urine or proteinuria
e) changes in vision
f) kidney problems
g)decreased urine output
h) shortness of breath
i) decreased levels of platelets or thrombocytopenia
j) impaired liver function
k) sudden weight gain
l) swelling
7) By diagnostic test called bio physical profile(bpp)test. it is a prenatal ultrasound evaluation of fetal well being.
It includes fetal heart rate reactivity, breathing movements, gross body movements, quantitative estimation of amniotic fluid volume, muscular tone.
