Trauma is a major healthcare and economic concern because of the loss of life, the societal burden in terms of lost productivity, increased disability of persons, as well as the consumption of healthcare resources. MVCs and homicide are the leading cause of death for individuals 15-24 years of age. A second peak in trauma related incidence occurs at the age of 35-54 and is related to poisonings from prescriptions and/or illegal drugs are the leading cause of unintentional death followed by MVCs for this age group. The third peak is for individuals 65 years related to falls and MVCs.
Individuals with traumatic injury need a lot of support from many individuals.
1-After trauma, there is time spend of one hour if patient receive treatment in that specific time period , there are chances to prevent death and patient can survive . So that one hour is called as golden hour. After it there are chances of mortality.
2- Trauma team and other healthcare staff have to respond immediately to patient with traumatic injury. Trauma can lead to death or patient have chances to become physically disable. This situation becomes stressful for the trauma team . Doctors and other healthcare workers are under pressure in that situation as they have to save life of that Patient. So pastoral team is provide at trauma centre who mentally , emotionally and spiritually support trauma team and other workers. Every kind of support is provided by pastoral team and they help trauma team and assist them. Pastoral team help trauma team in their every problem and perform religious duties. Pastoral team provide mental and emotional to family of the patient to calm the situation which help healthcare workers and trauma team to work efficiently.In this way pastoral service play important role at trauma centre.
