The data show the percentages of the types of energy consumed in the United States. Draw a pie graph for the data. What percentage of energy used is obtained from fossil fuels (coal, gas, and petroleum)?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Construct a pie chart by using MINITAB, which is shown in figure below.

MINITAB Procedure:

Step 1: Choose Graph > Pie Chart.

Step 2: Select Chart values from a table.

Step 3: In Categorical variables, enter “Energy”.

Step 4: In Summary variables, enter “Percent”.

Step 5: In Labels, select percent from slice labels.

Step 6: Click OK.

MINITAB output:

Observation:

Each individual slice in above figure shows the percentage of energy used.

The percentage of energy used obtained from fossil fuels is calculated below.

Natural gas + Coal + Petroleum = 25% + 21% + 37%

                                                         = 83%

The percentage of energy used obtained from fossil fuels is 83%.
