The data show the percentages of the types of energy consumed in the United States. Draw a pie graph for the data. What percentage of energy used is obtained from fossil fuels (coal, gas, and petroleum)?
Construct a pie chart by using MINITAB, which is shown in figure below.
MINITAB Procedure:
Step 1: Choose Graph > Pie Chart.
Step 2: Select Chart values from a table.
Step 3: In Categorical variables, enter “Energy”.
Step 4: In Summary variables, enter “Percent”.
Step 5: In Labels, select percent from slice labels.
Step 6: Click OK.

Observation:
Each individual slice in above figure shows the percentage of energy used.
The percentage of energy used obtained from fossil fuels is calculated below.
Natural gas + Coal + Petroleum = 25% + 21% + 37%
= 83%
The percentage of energy used obtained from fossil fuels is 83%.
