Did like or not like this presentation? Be specific with at least two examples.
What two things did you learn by watching this presentation that you did not already know?
1. THis was an informative presentation, which is usually delivered for training or educating. It is also a result of research, such as a scientific presentation of facts where the aim is to present the facts in an informative manner. The aim of an informative presentation is to help the audience understand and retain the information that is provided to them.
2. The central idea of the presentation is that smiling, a simple act, has benefits that are much greater than we think. Some of the benefits include an increased lifespan, and an overall positive effect on the well-being of all individuals.
3. The speaker cited a few sources, including a research project in 2010 bu the Wayne State University that looked into the pre-1950s baseball cards of Major League Players, where it was found that the span of a players smile could actually predict his life span. Another research that he spoke about what conducted in Papua New Guinea, Paul Ekman, the world's most renowned researcher on facial expressions, found that even members of the Fore tribe, who were completely disconnected from Western culture, and also known for their unusual cannibalism rituals, attributed smiles to descriptions of situations the same way you and I would. He also spoke about Charles Darwin's "Origin of Species" where he states that the act of smiling actually makes one feel better, rather than just smiling which is a result of feeling good.
4. The speaker had good vocal variety. He was able to direct the attention of the audience with the help of pauses at appropriate times, so emphasize a point as well as to gain a reaction from the audience. He also used different tones while speaking, and added humour into the presentation and delivered it well. He avoided the use of filler words thus makinghim seem well prepared and professional. He maintained a good volume and rarely fluctuated except to stress on a particular point, and sounded confident overall.
