Answer:- The MAPK cascade is another name given to MAPK/ERK pathway. It is a signalling pathway in which a chain of different proteins in the cell communicates a signal from a receptor on the surface of the cell to the DNA in the nucleus of the cell. This signalling pathway starts when a ligand binds to the cell surface receptor and ends when a protein in the nucleus is expressed that brings about a change in the cell.
MAPK are catalytically inactivated in their base form and for activation multiple phosphorylations are required. These phosphorylation events are carried out by specialized enzymes of STE protein kinase group. Following is the signalling cascade of MAPK in picture form for better understanding.
