WHO defines health as," Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely absence of disease and infirmity .
Health is a balance between physical, mental and social health and all are interconnected. If one is affected the other too gets affected.
Lifestyle habits like eating proper nutritious foods, exercising, sleeping well, not being addicted to alcohol, smoking, drugs , self care and hygiene all contribute to physical health of an individual. All these also contribute to mental health indirectly as well as directly. Eating nutritious food and balanced food prevents the risk of depression , anxiety and stress. Absence of chronic diseases against prevents us from depression.
Dietary involvement of physical health :
Eating a proper balanced diet of carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals and fats is very important for overall physical health. It gives you energy to work all through the day and this gives a sound sleep at night. This maintains homeostasis in our body thus contributing to the physical well being.
Not only physical well being, it contributes to mental well being. Vitamin D deficiencies are found to increase the risk of depression. Vitamin B protects the nervous system thereby preventing the nerves related diseases contributing to mental health.
Exercise on physical health:
Regular physical activity is very important to be on the healthy side . It prevents obesity, maintains bone mass, prevents osteoporosis, heart related diseases.
It releases endorphins which are happy hormone thus managing behavioral disorders such as anxiety, depression.
Do the physical activity of your choice whether it can be exercise at home or gym or simple walking or swimming or sports of your choice or even the household chores to stay fit .
Sleep:
Sleep is crucial as detoxification of our body takes place when we sleep. Try to catch atleast 7 to 8 hours of sleep in a day. It increases immune system and thus prevents us from falling sick often.
Sleep prevents irritability, lack of concentration, calms us down thereby promoting mental health.
Conclusion :
Health is Wealth . Physical, mental health is interconnected and hence we can say that physical health is as important as mental health.
