Which statement(s) about graphic design are true?
a)
Reversing the sequence of years on the x-axis causes an increasing trend to look like a decreasing trend. |
||
b)
Starting the y-axis at a point other than zero ensures that the magnitude of any trend is accurately portrayed. |
||
c)
All of the statements are true. |
||
d)
Starting the y-axis at zero causes an increasing trend to look like a decreasing trend. |
Option - (a) and ( b) are true statements
But ...... Option - (d) is false statement
Suppose that x - axis is represent years from 1 to 5 ......... and y-axis is represent profits. Also suppose that profits of the company are increasing year by year. In this situation we will have (x,y) co-ordinates both increasing and as such a positive slope for the graph will deploy an increasing trend in the graph.
Keeping Y - axis as it is, if we take value on x - axis from year - 10 to Year - 1 ( i.e reverse direction), we will have co-ordinates x and y co-ordinates both decreasing in each of the combinations of (x,y) hence a negative slope and decreasing trend is found in the graph.
Option - (b) is also true. Creating a false base on Y - axis helps in eliminating unnecessary space wastage. Thus trend can be extended for a better presentation in the graph.
Option - (d) is absolutely false, because change in trend does not happen just due to a change in starting point on Y-axis.
