Discuss the bow-tie method and then provide another specific example of an effective tool that hospitals use for risk assessment. Which one would you implement in your area and why? Must provide specific examples of each being used and results. Discuss in what areas you feel a risk management analysis could be effective and why?
The method takes its name actually from the shape of the diagram that it create, which looks almost like a man’s bowtie. A bowtie diagram mainly does twokind of things. First of all, a bowtie gives a visual summary as well as depcition of all plausible incident scenarios which could exist around a certain hazard and the impact of it. Secondly, the bowtie also can depcitwhat an organization does to control such scenarios by analysing and identifying safety barriers. The safety part is the prime concern in such risk assesment ( mitigation and prevention).Integrating the safety management system information ( depends on organisation) in a bowtie demonstrates how hazards are properly managed by an organization. Many healthcare uses quality tools incorporated with monitoring emchanism to analyse the risk. They put a learning curve over it so that if the same or similar kind of risk happens how they can deal with it and how it can be avoided. Collection of data, baseline assesment, evaluation through various scenarios, requirement of resources and proper technologies and medication for it. Curability and best practise analysis, benchmarking techniques etc to be incorporated in the system to mitigate the possible risk. Proper training and development to be given to the staffs to be equipped for all such risk assesment.
