What property is common to all types of biological molecules? How does this property relate to biological processes?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Biological macromolecules are necessary components of life as they are utilized for performing many cellular functions. These molecules are divided into four major classes; carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. The majority of cells biomass is made up of these biomolecules. All the biomolecules are organic in nature. All organic molecules contain carbon and other elements. However, carbon is common to all types of biological molecules.

Most of the biological processes are interdependent on each other. This requires the binding of biological molecules with each other. The bonding properties of carbon qualifies it to act as the foundation element in biological molecules in living things. Carbon is able to form four covalent bonds with a plethora of elements which also results in the formation of complex biomolecules.
