A patient who just had a right colectomy , may need hospital stay for 3-7 days and are more prone to Infection.In this condition , the patient should be Protected from nosocomial infections or hospital acquired infections , that can be transmitted by contracted within a hospital Environment , or through health care workers , hospital equipment.
To prevent this , following precaution should be taken .
1. Provide Isolation - If patients have colectomy then appropriate equipment should be readily available for use , including waterproof gowns , gloves etc. To Prevent patient from contacting the Infection
2. Creating an Infection control Policy - As such patient have highest risk of getting Infection, infection control Policy should be followed.
3. Sanitising /Hand washing -. All staff members should wash hands with soap and warm water before Providing care to patients Also use Gloves while changing bed sheets or dressing.
4. Foods should be kept at proper temperature- If food stays out in a patient room for several hours , then it should be trashed to prevent spoilage as there is possibility of acquiring infections.
5. Other precaution - Prevent patient from walking Barefoot
-. Changing linens daily and clean them regularly.
