The most prevalent inequality in many countries is gender inequality . Gender based wage gap or different pay for identical work is very common in many countries . Due to difference in perception of work ability this wage gap exists . Women are sometimes considered less productive or less efficient . The skills and education level of women are undermined . This issue mainly occurs due to difference in educational opportunities , prevalent social ideas , bias towards a particular gender , etc .

Inability to negotiate , motherhood , industry segregation , discrimination based on gender all leads to this gap . Also in some developing countries male education is given more importance at root level than education of the female child . This leads to basic difference in skills .

We can learn more about this wage gap from various data on gender wages for similar job roles . Distribution of high tech jobs among males and females also indicate such inequality .
